What is in cigarette smoke
Cigarette smoke contains more than 7,000 chemical compounds; at least 69 of them are classified as carcinogenic. The list below is not all of them — it is the ones whose names bring a place to mind.

Why this list exists
Numbers stay abstract. The sentence "7,000 chemicals" stops nobody, because it pictures nothing. But nail polish remover, mothballs, lighter gas — those all have an image. This page is not here to be memorised. It is here to make smoke concrete.
